Localvoyeurism

So in discussing the joys of localvorism with T we've come upon a new term. This term, localvoyeurism, arose because of our trip to Polyface farms. There we were thinking gosh - I hope we can find something like this in Harrisonburg (some 40 miles nearer to our home) so that we don't have to incur the nastiness of the long commute on ourselves and the environment and therefore partially eradicate the ethical reasoning behind the movement. This thought was accompanied by two new BMWs (330xi and a 335xi - if you care, needless to say they aren't cheap) pulling in on either side of us - from Pennsylvania. These people had driven down specifically to get food from Polyface. OK people, it's obviously not local food if you have to drive 150 miles one way. They were there solely for the experience, for the say-so value of the visit. This is the new eco-tourism, and I don't like it.

That being said, we have a nice little farm where we get food that's 1 mile away from the house. So I'm desperately not trying to fall into that new category.
