Iraq Casualty #'s

Warren was kind enough to notice that indeed I did not cite my source for the Iraq casualty information. To be honest I heard it from a friend and did not do the adequate fact checking necessary (were this a newspaper I'd be fired... luckily it is not) - however the American "War on Terror" casualties have passed the 9/11 numbers according to RNews and Jabberwonk. Unfortunately what was incorrect in my last post was the inclusiveness of the numbers (as noted by Jabberwonk). There is wide speculation that just military casualties in Iraq will pass the 9/11 mark (2,973 - and for the jingoists among us, that is 2,905 Americans) in 2006.

The incorrectly reported "Iraq military" casualties passing 9/11 figure actually includes:
2,611 military casualties
135 American contrators
333 military casualties (Afghanistan)

Sorry for the mistake - hopefully it still remains a sobering reminder. And as sobering as that sad milestone is, consider that 2 years ago the Lancet had reported 100,000 premature war related deaths of Iraqi's.
